South Florida Anglers Prep for a Showdown!

Who will rock the rings and be crowned 2019 champions?

Pompano Beach, Fla. (August 5, 2019) – It’s the grand finale of the 21st annual Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit! The most anticipated leg of the series, the Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown runs from August 15th-18th and will determine which team will claim the most prestigious meat fishing title in tournament fishing plus a custom set of champion’s rings! The tournament festivities begin Thursday, August 15th at the Pompano Beach Civic Center from 6 – 10 p.m. for the kick-off party, hosted by Blue Moon Fish Co. The IGFA also returns with their free kid’s “Teach & Reach” fishing clinic from 6 – 8 p.m.  Advance registration is required and spaces are available first come, first serve.  Competition day is Saturday, August 17th with a shotgun start at 7 a.m., and the weigh-in opens at 4 p.m. at Sands Harbor Resort & Marina.

The action leading up to the tournament has been red hot. The wahoo bite in particular has been on fire. With a full moon on August 15th, the stage could be set for an epic finish to the season and some monster wahoo on the scales. The total Showdown purse is expected to exceed $165,000 with a KDW winner-take-all jackpot approaching $37,000 and the Pick 3 is headed for a payout of more than $63,000! Last year was a close race with team Blue Moon who weighed 4 kings,4 tuna, and a wahoo for 155 pounds and a $18,698 payday. In the series race, it was Captain Jim Oliver and his crew from team Gator One whose 5th place finish at the Showdown won them the overall title! Who will claim the title this year?

Heading into the Showdown, Captain Carl Torresson and his team on Slob City are leading the pack with a total of 57 points. With two veteran teams right behind them on their Mercury powered SeaVee boats, there is no room for error. Bryce Statham and his Blue Moon team are sitting in 2nd with 55 points, and Captain Art Sapp and his team on Native Son, 5-time Showdown Crown champions, are in 3rd place with 51 points. The cash payouts and custom rings aren’t the only incentives for teams to compete in the PBSC. If you have registered for all three legs of the series, your team is automatically entered into a host of grand prize drawings that will be held at the kickoff party on August 15th! Some of the incredible prize packages handed out include a Resorts World Bimini VIP Weekend package for four, a RAM 1500 truck 3-year lease from Joey Accardi of Pompano Beach, $2,500 cash giveaway, Costa Sunglasses package for your team, Bass Pro Shopping Spree, and so much more!!!

As a division 10 sanctioned event for the Southern Kingfish Association, the Showdown offers a great opportunity for teams to finish strong in their division for the season and earn a spot in the SKA national championship event scheduled for April 16-18, 2020 in Ft. Pierce, FL.

If you can’t fish the event, feel free to swing by the weigh-in to join anglers and spectators for the afternoon festivities.  If you can’t make the weigh-in, be sure to check out the live leaderboard page at www.bluewatermovements.com or follow @fishbluewater for tournament posts, updates and live videos on Facebook and Instagram.

One of the unique aspects of any Bluewater Movements tournament is the connection to community and charity.  The Perry J. Cohen Foundation (PJCF) is the charitable beneficiary of the 2019 PBSC. Perry was a 14-year-old boy from Jupiter, FL who was tragically lost at sea on a fishing trip with a friend on July 24, 2015. The charitable partnership between Bluewater Movements and PJCF focuses on Boating Safety Education, one of the four pillars of the PJCF mission statement. Within that, a “Safety First” award has been established together with tournament sponsor, Bass Pro Shops, to present the Top Junior Angler in each leg of the series with a boating safety kit on behalf of the Perry J. Cohen Foundation. To learn more about how you can support PJCF, visit https://www.pjcf.org/

Registration for the Showdown closes Thursday, August 15th at the conclusion of the kickoff party.  To save time in line, register before the kickoff party online at www.fish.bluewatermovements.com or call the Bluewater Movements office at 954-725-4010.  For more details on the Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown, visit www.saltwatershowdown.com
