Showdown on the Big Blue Set for August 5th

July 17, 2017

POMPANO BEACH, FL – The 19th Annual Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown is set for August 3-6 and is once again an open event that is available to all fishing teams, regardless of whether they participated in one of the previous legs in the series.  The kickoff party will be held at the Pompano Beach Civic Center on Thursday, August 3rd, followed by the tournament day on Saturday, August 5th and an awards ceremony the following day. A drawing for a 29’ SeaVee will also be happening at the conclusion of the awards!

Competing teams in the running for the Showdown Crown, presented by Simrad Electronics, are amped up in hopes to claim this #1 title in competitive meat fishing. The winning team of the series will also receive custom Super Bowl-style rings to commemorate their victory. Team Pop A Top currently sits in the first place spot with 55 points followed by Blue Moon in second place with 50 points. Seapremacy is in third place with 49 points and Doing It All/Hardway trails closely behind with 48 points. Scoring is determined by where teams place in each leg of the series. There are plenty of other prizes and payouts up for grabs at this year’s Saltwater Showdown, including two large jackpots that have rolled over from the second leg in the series. The Pick 3 and KDW jackpots are collectively estimated to pay out over $44,000! The KDW jackpot is determined by the heaviest kingfish, wahoo and dolphin combination. Similar to the KDW but with a twist, the Pick 3 targets three of the five eligible species. All five species are placed in a sealed container the morning of the tournament and three are randomly chosen. The three that are drawn are the three that must be caught for a team to win the massive pot. The heaviest combination will determine the winner.

The highly anticipated drawing for a 29’ SeaVee valued at $132,000 takes place at the Showdown awards on August 6th. The boat comes complete with twin 250HP Mercury Optimax engines, T-Top, leaning post, trim tabs and a Loadmaster Trailer. But, the boat is not built until the winner is chosen, giving them the ability to add options, choose their own color and build the boat exactly the way they want it. The drawing will be held at the Pompano Civic Center at approximately 4:00 pm.  Proceeds from the drawing support a number of charitable organizations including the Pompano Beach Kiwanis Club and the Children’s Tumor Foundation.
