Loadmaster: Trailer Maintenance

August 9, 2018

Boating season is in full swing which means lots of trailers are on the road!

Maintaining your trailer is the key to ensure a safe trip every time you head to the ramp.  Although there are many components to check, brakes are the necessary evil that should be checked regularly.  Here are a few tips…..

  • Check the brake fluid level and refill if necessary
  • Inspect the brake pads and rotors for wear
  • Check the brake lines periodically for cracks or leaks
  • Make sure the solenoid wire is securely attached to the tow vehicle’s light wire.

A suggestion we recommend to help your brake components from rust and corrosion…..

After each use of your trailer, thoroughly wash with soap and water, rinse all the brake components with fresh water and spray with a non-lithium spray.  This will coat the components and protect them from the weather elements.  This along with regular maintenance will help to prolong the life of your brakes.

Many consumers don’t realize the importance of having brakes on a trailer and the role they play in assisting with stopping the tow vehicle.  The safety it provides, not only to the one towing but also to others on the road, should be at the top of your list.  Remember, the investment you have sitting on that trailer!
