Last Big Tourney of the Summer Set for August 4th

July 16, 2018

The 20th anniversary summer party continues with the 20th Annual Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown on August 2-5.  The Showdown is the final leg of the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit and teams will be lining up to take their shot at a cash purse over $100,000 in the last big fishing tournament of the summer in South Florida.  Participation in the Showdown is open to all teams regardless of whether they have fished prior legs of the PBSC series or not.

Team O-Sea-D Titanium had a stellar performance in the 2017 Showdown with 178.1 pounds of kingfish, tuna and wahoo to win the tournament!  With an estimated $15,000 payout up for grabs in the KDW Jackpot at the Showdown this year, they will be looking to add a dolphin to the fish box and take home the jackpot!  The Pick 3 added value category is expected to reach $35,000 in the Showdown.  Three of the tournaments five eligible species (dolphin, wahoo, kingfish, tuna and cobia) are chosen at random in this category and those are the fish that must be caught to cash in big!

The race for the top team of the series title will be decided at the Showdown where tournament sponsor, Simrad Electronics, will present the top overall team with $2,500 and a set of Super Bowl style championship rings to commemorate their achievement as the most dominant meat fishing team in South Florida for 2018!  Team Doing it All/Hard Way is the team to beat right now.  They are sitting in first place with 60 points followed by No Plan/Contagious in second with 55 points and Gator One in third with 54 points.  Scoring is determined by where teams place in each leg of the series. A guaranteed $10,000 is up for grabs to the first-place team in the tournament and there are a ton of added value prize categories for novice teams, small boats, junior and pee-wee anglers and more.  A $375 per boat entry fee in the Showdown will get you access to countless ways to win in the tournament PLUS great parties and hospitality from sponsors like Blue Moon Fish Company, Bonefish Mac’s, Hooter’s and Sands Harbor Resort & Marina.

The grand finale of the Saltwater Showdown happens on August 5th at the Pompano Beach Civic Center with the highly anticipated drawing for a 29’ SeaVee valued at over $140,000.  The boat comes complete with twin 250HP Mercury Verado engines, T-Top, leaning post, trim tabs and a Loadmaster Trailer. But, the boat is not built until the winner is chosen, giving them the ability to add options, choose their own color and build the boat exactly the way they want it. Approximate time of the drawing is 4:00 pm.  Proceeds from the drawing support a number of charitable organizations including the Pompano Beach Kiwanis Club and the Perry J Cohen Foundation.
