Biting: Tuna, Dolphin, Wahoo

August 9, 2018

Late last week the weed was so thick on the reef from Miami up to Palm Beach you could practically walk on it.  Fortunately, it cleared up a bit over the weekend to allow for more fishable conditions during the Saltwater Showdown.

Overall, fishing has been relatively slow.  The best concentration of fish in the Broward area has been between Boca and Delray.  Drifting the reef has produced some decent kings in the 10 to 20 pound range, a handful of blackfin tuna up to 28 pounds and a couple of wahoo as well.

Playing around the weed has definitely been the most productive fishing lately.  Captain Art Sapp, Native Son Sportfishing, put his charter earlier this week on a nice mess of dolphin with a couple of bonus wahoo as well.  They caught the fish off weed patches and debris in 900 feet of water.
