22nd Annual Saltwater Slam Offers Big Payouts and Prizes

May 30, 2017

The 2017 Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit got off to a hot start in May with 131 teams competing in Leg 1 of the series.  Leg 2, The 22nd Annual Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Slam, returns on June 10th touting big payouts, including a KDW jackpot estimated at over $27,000! This optional entry category has rolled over from last year’s Saltwater Slam and is up for grabs to the team weighing in the largest kingfish, dolphin and wahoo combination. The jackpot was last paid out at the 2016 Saltwater Shootout to Crescendo with 58.5 lbs of the target combo and sent them home with a check totaling $39,060.

One big fish could mean one big payout for a Saltwater Slam competitor as well.  Team D&D landed a 41-pound kingfish in the first leg of the series to collect a check for $28,661.  If the fish hangs on as the heaviest of the series, they will also receive an authentic skeletal head mount of the winning catch courtesy of Dakus Bones.

In addition to the payouts, teams are also excited to gain points towards a series victory in the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit. The Simrad sponsored Showdown Crown is a hard earned title held by the top team in the series and bragging rights aren’t the only thing they’ll be walking away with. The team that accumulates the most points throughout the circuit will also be taking home a set of custom Super Bowl style rings. Team Seapremacy is off to a great start to becoming the next champion with their Shootout win in May, with teams Doing It All/Hardway and First in Line/Utopia hot on their heels.

The big checks and cool prizes aren’t the only things that rock at the Saltwater Slam.  The parties rock, too!  One entry fee covers all the anglers on your boat and gives you access to great food hospitality from Blue Moon Fish Company Bonefish Mac’s and Hooter’s along with open bar featuring Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Captain Morgan Rum and Jagermeister! Participating teams also get a cool bag filled with sponsor goodies and some killer angler shirts from SCALES!

The kickoff party and final registration for the Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Slam will be held at the Pompano Beach Civic Center on June 8th from 6pm to 10pm. Bring the kids for a great time during the free fishing clinic hosted by IGFA.  The clinic is available to children between the ages of 5 and 12.  Kids that participate in the clinic also have the opportunity to enjoy a free afternoon of fishing on Saturday, June 10th courtesy of Helen S Drift Fishing. Advance registration is required for the kid’s clinic as spaces are limited. The weigh-in is held at the Sands Harbor Resort and Marina on June 10th and scales open at 4pm.  The weigh-in festivities are open to the public.  A tournament DJ will keep the crowd rockin’ as the big fish hit the scales and spectators guess the weight of fish to win cool prizes.  The awards ceremony is held at the Pompano Civic Center on Sunday, June 11th from 2pm to 5pm.

Entry fee for the Slam is $475 per boat (plus tax).  To register for the Saltwater Slam, go to or call 954-725-4010.
