2013 Saltwater Slam Promises More Excitement and More Big Payouts!

Excitement, competition and a large payout are all in store for the anglers in the 18th Annual Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Slam held Saturday, June 8th. This tournament is the last chance for competitors to earn their invite to the last and final leg in the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit, the Saltwater Showdown. With the intensity high, neither hot rays or a rainy day will deter the search for Kings, Wahoo, Dolphin, Cobia and Blackfin Tuna.

The first leg of the series, the Saltwater Shootout, set the bar high with a total of 137 boats that participated and a tremendous amount of fish weighed. The first place team, Penny-less, even set a record by weighing a total of 10 fish. That wasn’t the only shock and awe of the tournament. Team Trouble Mak-O, one of the GreenHorn TNT winners, weighed in the heaviest fish of the Shootout, a 53.6 lb King.  8 More teams have just been drawn for the Saltwater Slam GreenHorn TNT.  It will be exciting to see what the next round of Greenhorns bring to the scales.

All the fun begins on June 6th at the kickoff party that is hosted at the Pompano Beach Civic Center by Blue Moon Fish Company. This is the last opportunity for teams to register for the Slam.

The party doesn’t stop after the kickoff though. The weigh-in, built by Boat Owners Warehouse, will be at Hillsboro Inlet Park starting at 4pm following fishing. If drinks, music and great food from Miller’s Ale House isn’t enough, stop by the weigh-in to see which fish will qualify teams to win over $200,000 in cash and prizes!  Of particular interest to the teams will be the bonus KDW Jackpot and Pick 3 categories.   Both of these prize categories have rolled over from the Shootout and are expected to exceed $20,000 collectively at the Slam.

The Slam is also the turning point for many of the teams competing for the top team of the series, Showdown Crown award, sponsored by Simrad Electronics.  Currently, team Penny-Less leads the pack after their victory in the Saltwater Shootout.

Part of the proceeds from the Saltwater Slam will be given back to the local community. The Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit proudly supports Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Their foundation ensures the best patient and family centered care regardless of one’s ability to pay.  For more information you can visit
