August 21 Fishing Report

August 21, 2013

If you ever wanted to catch a wahoo, now is the time to get out there and do it.  They are snapping and have been for the past two weeks.  Captain Art Sapp has caught 7 wahoo in the past 4 days alone.  Bryce Statham, his son Pierce and AJ Castronovo (Paul Castronovo’s son) caught a 23 pound wahoo yesterday morning right out front of Hillsboro Inlet.  They also caught 2 Sailfish, 2 Kings and a monster Barracuda.  For boats that have been going, it has not been uncommon for them to catch multiple wahoo on a trip.  The best action has been in depths between 300 and 200 feet of water and the flat lines and deep lines have been more productive than the kite baits.  The current was ripping at over 4 knots over the weekend but has finally backed off a bit.

If you want to catch a sailfish, don’t wait until the winter.  They are all over the place offshore as well and big ones too.  There are a lot of sharks around as well.  Conched Out hooked 15 hammerheads over the weekend when they were fishing the impromptu wahoo tournament.  They also managed to catch the heaviest wahoo of the day, a 31 pounder, plus several nice kings in the 30 pound range.
