Top Fishing Teams Compete for the Showdown Championship!

POMPANO BEACH, FL- South Florida’s championship tournament is almost here. The last and final leg of Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit, the Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Showdown, takes place on August 3rd. Teams had to show off their skills in the first two legs of the series to qualify for this invite only tournament.  A little luck and pounds of fish later, 75 teams earned their right to “showdown” for the championship title and a purse in excess of $100,000.

The pressure in the Showdown is particularly high for teams because this is the final chance for them to battle for the renowned Showdown Crown, sponsored by Simrad Electronics. There is currently a tie in the point’s race for the Crown. Team Worth the Wait and Doing it All/Team Hardway are both leading the fleet with a total of 50 points. Team Pennyless, winners of the Saltwater Shootout, aren’t following too far behind with a total of 48 points. Points are determined by where teams placed during the first two legs of the series.  Bragging rights aren’t the only reason to win the Showdown Crown. The champions will also be awarded “Superbowl style” commemorative rings! This is the first time in the history of the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit that teams will have the opportunity to claim these exclusive rings.

To add even more excitement to the Showdown, two of the largest prizes of the season have rolled over twice now and will be up for the taking August 3rd. Both the Kay Dee Dubya Jackpot and the Pick 3 have an estimated pot of $15,000! To win the KDW, teams have to catch the heaviest combination of Dolphin, Wahoo and Kingfish. To claim the Pick 3, teams will have to catch the 3 species of fish that have their names randomly drawn the morning of the tournament.  Last year, the Pick 3 worked out perfectly for Team ProPayroll.  They brought home a check for near $20,000 in the category.

The Kickoff Party takes place at the Pompano Civic Center on August 1st and is open to the public. Along with live music, a silent auction and a free fishing clinic for kids, the host of the party, Blue Moon Fish Company, will be serving their delectable food all night. Then on Saturday, the weigh-in, which is sponsored by Boat Owners Warehouse, will be held at Hillsboro Inlet Park at 4pm. Miller’s Ale House will be out serving tasty burgers and Chaos Rods will be putting on a casting contest for the kids.

The Saltwater Showdown, along with the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit will come to a close on Sunday, August 4th but not before the highly anticipated SeaVee boat drawing! The boat up for grabs will be a brand new 29’ SeaVee valued at $132,000! It also comes complete with twin 250HP Mercury Optimax engines, T-Top leaning post, trim tabs and a Real X Trailer.  A maxium of 4,000 tickets will be sold and the winner does not have to be present to win.  Want to customize the boat? Not a problem. The boat is not built until the winner is confirmed giving the winner the flexibility to pick their color, add options and build the boat exactly the way they want it before they take delivery. The drawing will be held at the Pompano Civic Center following the awards ceremony. Proceeds from the drawing support a number of charitable organizations including the Pompano Beach Kiwanis Club, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and the IGFA Junior Angler Association.
