The 3rd Annual Sailfish 400 Returns to Miami

December 22, 2016

Sailfish 400 races back to Miami for its third year on January 11th with plans for another record setting event. This is the second leg of the Quest for the Crest Sailfish Series, where top sailfishing teams from around the country will compete for an estimated $700,000 purse and their next opportunity to earn points towards a world champion title.

Last year, a record number 47 boats competed for $665,800, the largest purse to date at Sailfish 400. Team Seraphim took home first place and a big slice of the tournament pie with a whopping $246,850 in winnings for their 11 releases. Contender One trailed closely behind with 10 releases that earned them a paycheck for over $78,000. Another first for the tournament and the series was awarded to Cece Imbrie of OCD. She took home the titles of Top Female Angler and Master Angler of Sailfish 400 with six releases.  Team Fishless didn’t finish at the top of the leaderboard but they still managed to collect over $56,000 in prize money combined from daily winnings on day 1 along with a 48 pound kingfish that was the heaviest meatfish caught in the tournament.

The Area Code Challenge is a fun category in Sailfish 400 that gives teams the opportunity to compete against their local opponents for some extra prize money and hometown bragging rights. The prize category is broken into 305, 954, 561 and LDF (Long Distance Fishing Team) with bonus payouts to each team that wins in their area code.

In addition to cash prizes, a NASCAR Championship weekend prize package, compliments of Homestead Miami Speedway, will be given away to one lucky team competing in the tournament! Teams placing in the Top 8 will be eligible for the NASCAR grand prize. The winner receives six tickets to Ford Championship Weekend, VIP parking passes, pre-race pit passes, post-race victory lane access and a pace car ride.

The race driven theme of the tournament is once again reflected by its chosen charity, Driving for a Cause, which operates under the umbrella of the NASCAR Foundation to provide support for South Florida youth and educational programs. Driving for a Cause is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the community, supporting growth with volunteer and non-profit efforts.

The Sailfish 400 kickoff party will take place at 6pm on Wednesday, January 11th at the DoubleTree Grand by Hilton Biscayne Bay. This prime location has much to offer, including standard rooms, suites and condos with a breath taking view of Biscayne Bay, along with retail shopping and several restaurant options inside the hotel. The competition days are January 13th and 14th followed by a party bus excursion in downtown Miami for a Saturday night victory party and an awards brunch on Sunday, January 15th. Credentials are required for access to all event activities. Are you ready to wave the checkered flag at Sailfish 400?  Early entry for the tournament is $3,750 (plus tax) valid through December 21st. After December 21st, registration is $4,500 (plus tax).
