Team Bar South Chasing a 3Peat at 2016 Operation Sailfish

November 21, 2016

The 5th Annual Operation Sailfish, leg 1 of the Quest for the Crest Sailfish Series, returns to Sailfish Marina on December 7-11, with another round of exciting events and an estimated purse in excess of $750,000. The top sailfishing teams in the country will battle for the champion’s dog tags and record setting payouts over two days of fishing in West Palm Beach, FL. BAR South took home the champion’s title in 2015 for their second consecutive year, coupled with a hefty payout of $255,950. Will they accomplish their mission again this year? Or, will another team bring their winning streak to a halt?

In addition to a first place title and the champion dog tags, the Release Round Up has teams ready to charge hard at Operation Sailfish this year. This optional entry category has rolled over from last season with a jackpot expected to exceed $100,000! There are 4 rounds of fishing in the Release Round Up, spread evenly over the 2-day competition.  A random number between 1 and 6 is drawn at the start of each round and represents the minimum number of sailfish a team must release during that round in order to advance to the next.  Once a number is drawn, it cannot be used again. If there is no winner, the pot will rollover to the next leg of the series, Sailfish 400, where it will continue to grow until one lucky team hits the jackpot!

One of the highlights of Operation Sailfish is the opportunity to give back to the men and women who serve our country. The tournament has once again partnered with Operation Homefront, a national 501c(3) military based charity that provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors. Together, they will host a Take A Hero Fishing Day where teams will be paired with local military veterans, active duty soldiers and wounded warriors for a day of fun fishing on Thursday, December 8th followed by a ceremony that evening.  The tournament is also working together with Operation Homefront on a ‘Fill the Jeep’ toy drive to be able to provide toys to children of military families in need during the holidays.  Donations can be dropped off at Sailfish Marina during the tournament weekend.  For more information on the tournament charity and Take A Hero Fishing Day, visit http://www.bluewatermovements.com/opsail_charity/

The kick-off party and captain’s meeting is December 7th at Sailfish Marina and opens with a presentation of the colors along with the singing of the national anthem. Tournament days are December 9th and 10th followed by the awards brunch on Sunday, December 11th. Credentials are required for access to all event activities. Early entry for the tournament is $3,750 per team (plus tax) valid through November 16th.  After November 16th, registration is $4,500 per team (plus tax).  For more information on Operation Sailfish visit www.operationsailfish.com or call (954) 725-4010.
