Pick 3 Expected to Exceed $80,000 at Saltwater Showdown

July 21, 2015

One Prize Could Be Worth Over $80,000 At Saltwater Showdown!

POMPANO BEACH, FL – It’s not every day that you can spend $200 in a fishing tournament for the chance to win over $80,000!  Heck, it’s not every day that you can spend $200 for the chance to win over $80,000 anywhere!  Teams competing in the 17th Annual Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown on Saturday, August 8th will have that exact opportunity complements of a prize category called the Pick 3.   The Pick 3 jackpot has rolled without a winner over for the past 3 seasons of the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit.  On the morning of the tournament, 3 of the tournaments 5 eligible species (Dolphin, Wahoo, Kingfish, Blackfin Tuna and Cobia) will be drawn from a sealed container.  The 3 that are drawn are the 3 that must be caught for a team to win the massive pot.  The heaviest combination of these 3 fish will determine the winner in the event that more than one team catches the target 3.

If there were ever a field qualified to win the Pick 3, it’s the Showdown field.  The tournament is an invitation only event, where teams have to qualify their way into a spot based on how they perform in the Saltwater Shootout and Saltwater Slam events in May & June of the 3-leg summer series.  Only 75 teams receive the invite out of a series that hosts near 300 boats each year.

This “Superbowl” of summer tournaments is also the last opportunity for teams to show their skills in the battle for the distinguished Showdown Crown, sponsored by Simrad Electronics.  The Showdown Crown recognizes the most dominant team in what is considered by many to be the brightest and biggest stage for competitive meat fishing teams in the sport.  At the top of the leaderboard, with 55 points, is Off the Wall.  With 3rd and 4th place finishes in the first two legs of the series, Captain John Anderson and his crew on Off the Wall have certainly been the most consistent team in the series thus far.  Blue Moon/Shameless, winners of the Saltwater Shootout, are in 2nd with 54 points and following closely behind is Conched Out with 52 points. Scoring is determined by where teams placed during the first two legs of the series.  For a complete list of the series standings, visit https://www.bluewatermovements.com/showdown_crown_results/.  In addition to a hefty payout and bragging rights, the Showdown Crown winners will also be awarded one of a kind “Superbowl style” rings.

If you want to watch championship caliber teams hoist monster fish on the scales for the chance to win their share of a $150,000 purse, stop by for the weigh-in at Hillsboro Inlet Park at 4pm in Pompano Beach.  Miller’s Ale House will be serving up hot burgers and cold drinks for spectators enjoying the afternoon weigh-in at the park as well.  Hillsboro Inlet Park is located at 2700 N Ocean Blvd, Pompano Beach, 33062.

The Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Showdown and the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit will come to a close on Sunday, August 9th but not before the highly anticipated SeaVee boat drawing takes place. The boat up for grabs will be a brand new 29’ SeaVee valued at $132,000! It comes complete with twin 250HP Mercury Optimax engines, T-Top, leaning post, trim tabs and a Loadmaster Trailer. And, that’s not even the best part! The boat isn’t built until the winner is confirmed! This offers the flexibility to pick the color, add options and build the boat exactly the way they want it. The drawing will be held at the Pompano Civic Center following the awards ceremony. Proceeds from the drawing support a number of charitable organizations including the Pompano Beach Kiwanis Club, Children’s Tumor Foundation and the IGFA Junior Angler Association.
