O-Sea-D Wins Showdown! Blue Moon Wins PBSC Series!

August 9, 2017

The Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit came to a close last weekend with a total of 57 teams competing against some of the toughest tournament fishermen in South Florida during the 2017 Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown. Tons of prizes were given out, including the highly sought after Showdown Crown champion’s rings.

Finishing in first place at the Saltwater Showdown was team O-Sea-D Titanium with a total of 178.1 lbs that included four kingfish, four tuna and one wahoo.  That score was the second highest in the 19 year history of the tournament. Blue Moon followed with 122.1 lbs putting them in a second place position in the tournament and Seapremacy ended their day in third with a total of 121.8 lbs. Team Offshore Warrior had another successful year at the Showdown, taking home over $16,000 in winnings. In addition to their winnings, Offshore Warrior also had the biggest fish of the series, earning them a one-of-a-kind skeletal trophy of the their winning kingfish courtesy of Dakus Bones.

Another big series win went to Distracted in the series small boat division. They rode hard all season in their 25’ SeaVee powered with a single 250 Mercury outboard and proved they could hang with the big dogs. They collectively weighed in 294 pounds of fish in the series, a landslide victory that catapulted them to a $4,575 payout plus a brand new NSS EVO3 fishfinder/chartplotter courtesy of Simrad.

It was a tight race during the 2017 PBSC but Blue Moon ended up winning the series and taking home the #1 meat fishing title in the world with a total of 79 points that stemmed from a fourth, eighth and second place finish in the series. Seapremacy trailed closely behind with 77 points and team Pop A Top finished in third place with 71 points.  This was the second series title for Blue Moon, making them one of only two teams with more than one championship to their name in the history of the series.  Native Son holds the record with a total of 5 championship titles.

With no winners in the Pick 3 and KDW calcuttas, both purses will roll over into the first leg of next year’s series.  The KDW is estimated to pay out over $50,000 and the Pick 3 is estimated at $20,000 at the Saltwater Shootout next May.

Trace Bishop from team Ice Box had a great season in the PBSC.  He placed second at the Shootout , first at the Slam and first at the Showdown in the junior angler divisions to earn the Junior Master Angler title for the series as well.  Sherri Beswick on Spiced Rum III was the top female angler with 36.7 points and Jim Oliver on Blue Moon was the top male angler with 91.8 points.

The largest prize handed out during the awards ceremony on Sunday was a 29’ SeaVee boat valued at $132,00!  The 29’ SeaVee comes powered with twin 250HP Mercury Optimax engines, a Loadmaster Trailer, T-Top and leaning post.  Thousands tuned in to the live streaming of the SeaVee drawing on August 6th at www.winaseavee.com to see who would be the lucky winner. At around 5pm, Edgardo Estrada from Pensacola, FL received the phone call of his dreams when he found out that he held the winning ticket, #3644, for the SeaVee boat! A portion of the proceeds from the drawing support the Children’s Tumor Foundation and the Pompano Beach Kiwanis Club.
