New Categories added to the Saltwater Slam!

May 21, 2014

The 2014 Mercury SeaVee Saltwater Slam is the only tournament around where there’s a costume contest, a talent show and an insane amount of fish being weighed all in one weekend. On June 7th, the competition heats up as teams battle to catch that fish that will win a championship title. With over $275,000 in cash and prizes, each Dolphin, Cobia, Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna and Kingfish could make all the difference.

The Saltwater Slam is the second leg in the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit and the last chance for boats to qualify for the Saltwater Showdown, which is the invitation only, final leg of the Circuit. The first leg, the Saltwater Shootout, took place in May and multiple fish records were broken during this one-day tournament. Even though near 14 thousand pounds of fish were weighed at the Shootout, not one team caught a trio of a Kingfish, Dolphin and Wahoo.  Thus, the Kay Dee Dubya, which is an optional entry Calcutta, has rolled over to the Saltwater Slam making that one Calcutta alone estimated to be worth $10,000.  That’s not even the cherry on top. Another optional entry category, the Pick 3, also rolled over from the Shootout into the Slam, however, the pot is even bigger at an estimated $30,000 in the Saltwater Slam!

The Optional Entry Categories are not the only things promising some big payouts. The Fantasy Five Super Slam, sponsored by C&L Insurance, is a new category added to the Saltwater Slam. If a team weighs all 5 species of the Super Slam, (Dolphin, Wahoo, Kingfish, Cobia, Blackfin Tuna), they win $25,000! If multiple teams catch all 5, the winner will be determined by heaviest combined weight.

The kickoff party is also guaranteed to bring some excitement on June 5th.  Live Nation, a new sponsor to the Saltwater Circuit, is hosting “Pompano’s Got Talent” at the Kickoff party.  Participants in this contest will have the chance to put their unique talent on display for the chance to win 4 VIP tickets to the Tim McGraw concert at Cruzan Amphitheater in West Palm Beach on July 11th. The Kickoff party is held at the Pompano Beach Civic Center, located at 1801 NE 6th Street, Pompano Beach, 33060.

At the conclusion of the Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Slam, the final list of boats will be invited to compete in the last leg of the PBSC and to compete for the prestigious Showdown crown.  Currently team Makin Time/ Living Water is in the lead for the Showdown Crown with 31 points after a first place win in the Saltwater Shootout.  Team Reel Tension is following in second with 29 points and team Covered Up is in 3rd with 28 points.

To register for the Saltwater Slam, log on to www.saltwaterslam.com or call 954-725-4010. After May 22nd, the early entry fee of $375 (plus tax) increases to $475 (plus tax).  Teams can also late register at the Kickoff Party on June 5th.
