3 Inlets Compete for Over $375,000

One day. One challenge. Three Inlets. Are you up for it? The Sailfish Challenge is coming back into town on February 8th.  71 boats participated in 2013 and one boat alone took home a check for $196,870.  This year the purse is expected to exceed $375,000 in cash and prizes.

The winners in 2013, Team Reel Blue, declared Hillsboro Inlet while the second place team, Miss Annie, checked out of Palm Beach Inlet. Whether the plan is to head north to Palm Beach, keep it central off Pompano or “correr a Miami”, anglers have the option to check out of one of three inlets in the Sailfish Challenge. The three-inlet format makes it easier for boats to reach their hot spot with less running time and fish out of their homeport if they choose to. They are also allowed to check back in any of the three inlets in the afternoon regardless of which inlet they check out from.

In addition to the enticing three-inlet format, this tournament also offers you a way to give back. The Sailfish Challenge welcomes a new charity on board for the 2014 season, The IGFA and fishing conservation. The IGFA works to promote ethical sportfishing and productive science around the world. Currently, the IGFA has partnered with Stanford University to create the “IGFA Great Marlin Race” where satellite tags will be deployed on a variety of billfish species in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean. The second leg in the Quest for the Crest Series, the Sailfish Challenge is more than a one-day challenge for some teams. The 4 leg Quest series spans from December to April with teams chasing an estimated $2 million dollar purse and the most prestigious award in competitive sailfishing – the Crest jacket. Team Miss Annie is currently leading the fleet with 31 points followed by Get Lit is in second with 29 points.   For a complete list of the standings visit: http://www.bluewatermovements.com/quest_for_the_crest_point_standings/

The Kickoff Party for the Sailfish Challenge takes place at the IGFA in Ft. Lauderdale on February 6th.  Credentials are required for access to all event activities. Early entry for the tournament is $795 (plus tax) valid through January 20th. After January 20th, registration is $995 (plus tax).
