Elite Fishing Teams Prep for the Saltwater Showdown Championship!

POMPANO BEACH , FL— When you hear the word ‘Showdown’ you may imagine a scene from the wild west where two gunslingin’ cowboys square off in the middle of a dusty road in a small town to settle a dispute.  In the case of the 2012 Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown, there’s a dispute of a different kind to be settled.  Which team will hoist the championship trophy on August 5th?  That dispute will be settled in the blue water off South Florida on Saturday, August 4th. Considered the Superbowl of summer tournaments, the Showdown is the culminating event in the 3-leg PBSC trail.  Only 75 teams receive the honorable invitation to compete in the Showdown based on their performance in the first two qualifying legs of the series.

Currently, Casey Hunt’s Flight Plan fishing team leads the coveted Showdown Crown category sponsored by Simrad Electronics.  Fishing aboard a 66’ Spencer, Hunt’s team stands to become the first team to ever win the Crown fishing aboard a sportfish.  The Showdown Crown awards points to teams in each of the 3 PBSC legs based on where they finish in the tournament.  Flight Plan sits in 1st with 182 points followed by Robbie Buckley’s Kimbuktu team with 124 points and No Mercy in 3rd with 122 points.

With an anticipated cash purse in excess of $100,000 there will be more than just recognition at stake for the teams competing in the Showdown championship.  2 years ago, Stan Hunt, Casey’s younger brother, collected a record setting check for over $99,000 when his Rebound fishing team won the Showdown and the well publicized KDW Jackpot.

The Kids Castathon Championship sponsored by Chaos Rods will take place at Alsdorf Park on August 4 in conjunction with the Showdown tournament.  Kids between the ages of 5 and 12 will have the chance to test their casting accuracy and win prizes compliments of Chaos Rods.  The casting contest takes place between 3 and 6pm at the same location of the Showdown weigh-in – 2850 NE 14th Street Causeway, Pompano Beach (Boat Ramp).

If you want to experience what championship big game fishing is all about, then come down to the weigh-in for the Saltwater Showdown on Saturday, August 4th at Alsdorf Park around 4pm.  In addition to watching the teams weigh their big catches, there is live music, food, drink and many other exciting sights to take in.

The Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Showdown will close in grand fashion on Sunday, August 5th with the highly anticipated drawing for a brand new 29’ SeaVee valued at $132,000. The drawing is limited to a maximum of 4,000 tickets and you don’t have to be present to win.  Andrew Nixon, from Delray Beach, FL, was the lucky winner in 2011.

The 29’ SeaVee comes complete with a pair of twin 225HP Mercury Optimax engines, a Real X Trailer,  plus a T-Top and leaning post.  Here’s the best part - the boat is not built until a winner is confirmed.  This gives the winner the flexibility to pick their color, add options and build the boat exactly the way they want it before they take delivery.  SeaVee and Mercury are long time partners of Bluewater Movements - promoters of the boat giveaway and the PBSC tournament series.  To see some of the past winners, visit www.winaseavee.com.  Proceeds from the drawing support a number of charitable organizations including the Pompano Beach Kiwanis Club and the IGFA Junior Angler Association.  For more information on the Saltwater Showdown, visit www.saltwatershowdown.com or call 954.725.4010
