Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to enter the tournament?

Registration is $3,750 per boat plus tax up until 4/4/17. After 4/4/17, entry fee is $4,500 per boat plus tax.

How many anglers can we register for the tournament?

There is no limit on the number of anglers that can be registered by a team.  All anglers should be registered in the tounament for reporting purposes.

Can the captain also be an angler?

Yes. Completion of the captain's section of the form will qualify him or her as an angler.

Are there social passes for the tournament?

Yes.  Each team receives (6) social passes with their general entry fee into the tournament.  Additional passes may be purchased if necessary.  Wristbands are required for access to hospitality parties and other activities for the tournament.

By Mail: Make checks payable to Bluewater Movements, Inc. PO Box 50114, Lighthouse Point, FL 33074. Upon receipt of check in the mail, a staff member will contact captain to complete registration process. Kickoff Party: Late registration will take place the evening of the kickoff party on April 25, 2017.

Can I pay with a check at the kickoff party?

No. Acceptable payment methods at the kickoff party are Cash, Mastercard, Visa & AmEx Only. No business or personal checks will be accepted at the kickoff party.

What are the eligible species of fish?

Sailfish, White Marlin, Blue Marlin, Dolphin, Wahoo, Kingfish, Cobia & Tuna

What is the minimum weight requirement for funfish?

10 pounds

How many Funfish can we weigh and where can we weigh them?

1 per species. Weigh scales will be available at Conch Harbor Marina.

What if there is a tie?

In the event of a tie in the Sailfish division, winners will be determined by the team or individual that releases their last fish first.  

What are the hook requirements?

As required by NMFS, all teams must use a non-offset circle hook in the tournament.

Can we use treble hooks?

No. As required by NMFS, all teams must use a non-offset circle hook in the tournament.

Can we use J hooks?

J hooks are not permissible when using live baits in the tournament, however, J hooks may be used on artificial lures only.

Does the tournament operate according to IGFA rules?

No.  While there are aspects of the tournament rules that are consistent with IGFA standards, there are some elements of the rules that are in contrast to IGFA mandated rules.  Contact the tournament director if there are any specific questions related to tournament rules.

How many lines can we fish?

All boats are permitted to fish up to seven lines in the water during the tournament.  Artificial & natural dredges are allowed (maximum of 2) and do not factor into the count for the permitted number of lines in the water.

What method is used to verify Sailfish releases in the tournament?

All releases must be documented on video by each team as stated in the rules.  SD Cards are the only acceptable form of video media in the tournament.  Teams must provide their own media.

Is live chumming allowed in the tournament?

No. Live chumming is not permitted. Frozen chum is allowed.

Can you baitfish while you are sailfishing?

No, baitifishing can occur at any time during the day, however, you may not sailfish while you are baitfishing.

Are teasers permitted in the tournament?

Yes. A maximum of two artificial or natural bait teasers are permitted in the tournament.  Live bait teasers are not permitted.

What are the boundaries in the tournament?

East: 81.18 West: 82.18 South: 24.03. Teams may not exit the boundaries when fighting a fish.

Is there an official announcement of lines in the water?

Yes. The announcement will be made at 8:00am.

What time are lines out of the water?

Lines are out of the water at 4pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 2pm on Saturday.  Boats have until 6pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 4pm on Saturday to turn in their SD cards & release cards each day.
